How Should the Court Deal With Prostition in Canada?

FURTHER UPDATE: April 25th, 2012

The Ontario Court of Appeal is set to release its landmark ruling  on prostitution later today. (Bedford v. Canada )

The central issue the court will need to address is the prostitutes’ safety concerns and arguments versus the public policy arguments against prostitution.  The decision could go either way and the case may be appealed further to the Supreme Court of Canada.

In essence, brothels are ok., communication for the purpose is still illegal  and living off the avails of prostitution has been modified.  It is anticipated that the Crown prosecutors will Appeal today’s ruling  further to the Supreme Court of Canada.

FURTHER UPDATE: April 25th, 2012

The federal government has asked the Supreme Court of Canada to stop the impending decriminalization of a key law that would permit a form of living off the avails of prostitution.  The government has indicated its intention to Appeal the Ontario Court of Appeal’s decision to the Supreme Court of Canada.
