Bride Asks Wedding Photographer for Refund in the Event of Divorce

A bride-to-be in the U.K., in search of a suitable wedding photographer for the upcoming nuptials, has taken contract negotiations to a new level.  According to a British news source, she wants a refund in case her marriage to the groom doesn’t work out.

In an email inquiring about the photographer’s services, she asked for a clause to be inserted in their contract that guaranteed a full refund of the £1,500 fee in the event she and the groom ever divorced.  Her reasoning was that if they ever ended their marital union – whether soon or many years down the line – they would not need the wedding picture anymore.   Her email noted that she and her fiancé were “having some issues with the contracts we are coming across,” and asked if the photographer was willing to add a refund clause.

Apparently the wedding photographer turned down the job entirely, and instead posted a screenshot of the woman’s email message on an online forum for other wedding photographers, offering them the gig instead.

The bride’s unusual request went viral on the internet, with some commenters wisely pointing out that the same contract clause could be demanded of the wedding florist, baker, reception venue, etc. And in a post one commenter quipped:  “Can my family get a refund on everything I’ve ever bought once I’m dead?”

One has to wonder whether this same bride would be willing to return the gifts she and the groom receive from their wedding guests, in the event the marriage doesn’t work out.
