Statement on Recent Events
On Behalf of our team at Russell Alexander Collaborative Family Lawyers:
We are deeply troubled, saddened and alarmed by tragedies in the United States and Canada that underscore the violence against Blacks and people of colour which still plagues our society. Despite the progress that has been made in recent decades to advance justice and civil rights, more needs to change. Systemic racism continues to be a harsh reality in our society. Bigotry and racism have no place in our community. For the past few weeks, we have been pondering, learning and deliberating about these important issues. We collectively agreed that we cannot remain silent.
As a law firm, we rely on the rule of law. But the law must be fairly applied and enforced. All citizens, regardless of race, colour, gender, ethnicity, nationality, sexual orientation, or religion, must have faith that our justice system is fair, and our laws applied equitably, and equally. The rule of law is to be respected and followed by all, including our law enforcement officers, stakeholders in the justice system, and people in positions of power. In the words of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., “We’ve got some difficult days ahead”.
Here at our firm we stand unified in support of the pursuit of equality for all.
