Your initial retainer payment crystallizes the solicitor-client relationship and will likely get you to your first court date (if your matter is in litigation).

Typical first steps upon opening a new file, include but are not limited to:

  • a demand letter to the opposing party (or their counsel, if represented)
  • an initial reporting letter to you
  • corresponding with the opposing party (or their counsel, if represented) regarding the issues relevant to your matter
  • client communication
  • drafting pleadings (if your matter is in litigation)
