Control-Alt Divorce: Gates Fortune Set to be Divided

The world’s fourth richest person in the world, Bill Gates, is set to split up with his wife Melinda after 27 years of marriage. The parties did not state the reason for their separation but this is set to be one of the biggest settlements in history (right after that of Jeff and Mackenzie Bezos).

Bill Gates currently has a net worth of $130 billion. The parties have pledged to continue their work together on he Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, yet rumor has it there is no pre-nuptial agreement.

In the statement they released, the parties had stated that they have already reached an agreement as to how their marital assets were to be divided. The also indicated that they wished for the Court to divide their assets as per the separation contract.

The use of a Separation Agreement is very common among couples who seek to separate amicably and enables both parties to have control over how their property, custody and support issues are to be determined.

Similarly to the equalization that was made during the separation of Jeff and Mackenzie Bezos, it is likely that Melinda Gates will become one of the world’s most wealthy individuals in the world after the assets are divided.
