In this 1-hour live virtual event, a panel of Ontario-based collaborative family lawyers will be discussing the importance and value of diversity, equity, and inclusion within an organization, for both internal and external stakeholders. They will also be sharing their tips and best practices for establishing a DEI committee as a family law firm.

Attendees will have the opportunity to submit their questions to the panelists. The panelists will reserve time for a dedicated Q&A segment at the end of the presentation. To respect confidentiality, all attendees’ identities will remain anonymous to other audience members.

Nafisa is the Senior Managing Associate Lawyer at our firm. She is a collaboratively trained lawyer and has been practicing exclusively in all areas of Family Law for over 10 years with the best interest of children as a primary focus when providing legal advice and strategies for clients. She uses her skills as a collaborative lawyer to find creative ways of achieving positive results for her clients. Nafisa is also committed to giving back to the community and currently sits as a Board of Director at Luke’s Place, the Malvern Family Resource Centre, the Durham Region Law Association, and Collaborative Practice Durham Region.

Margie has over 14 years of experience in Family Law. She is a Collaborative Family Law Practitioner and an Accredited Mediator who is passionate about facilitating fair and reasonable settlements for her clients. Margie approaches law in a holistic manner and believes that, as a Family Lawyer, she has a unique opportunity to provide emotionally intelligent advice to clients that will assist them in moving forward with their lives in a better position with the best interest of her clients and their children in mind.

Brittany Whalen, Associate Family Lawyer

Brittany Whalen

Brittany was called to the bar in Ontario in 2016 and to the Newfoundland and Labrador bar in 2017. As a family lawyer, she uses her innovative problem-solving and conflict management skills to ensure her clients feel comfortable and supported as she supports them in navigating and resolving their family law matters. Brittany is also known for her minority rights advocacy. She received national attention for her role as lead counsel in a landmark transgender rights case which led to her client receiving the first gender-neutral birth certificate in Canada. This case acted as a catalyst for country-wide policy and legislative reform aimed at promoting equality, diversity, and inclusion.
