Twitter — Facebook Poll: Is it ever too early to put up your christmas tree?

Is it ever too early to put up your christmas tree?

We have friends who put their tree and christmas decorations up right after Halloween.

We like to set up a real tree and often wait until December so it doesn’t end up looking like a Charlie Brown christmas tree.

Some wait for the local Santa Claus parade before they start to get into the spirit.

So what do you think?

Is it ever too early to put up your christmas tree?

Should Divorce Court be Televised?

Should Divorce Court be televised?

Public access to our justice system is a fundamental principle in Canada.  Many US jurisdictions permit their court proceedings to be televised.  Should Canada head in the same direction?

So You Want to Be A Taikonaut?

So You Want to Be A Taikonaut?

The Globe and Mail recently reported:

In the coming days, the People’s Republic of China will become the eighth country to see one of its female citizens in space, and just the third country to put them there with its own technology.

But the name of the first female taikonaut remains a closely guarded secret in the countdown to the expected launch of the Shenzhou-9 spacecraft on Saturday. And the woman who is sure to be hailed as a Chinese national hero  …

So do you think you have the right stuff?  Here are some qualifications China is seeking in their taikonaut:

      1. to be married
      2. to have given birth naturally
      3. to be physically and mentally mature
      4. to be odour-free
      5. to have flawless skin
      6. to be a Peoples Liberation Army fighter pilot

Some of the top contenders include Major Liu who has been described as ‘a quite girl’ with ‘a sweet smile’ and Capt. Wang who apparently impressed recruiters as ‘smart, lively and eager to excel’.

Hopefully the successful candidate will not get a pimple or blemish otherwise China may have to delay the launch.

So what do you think of China’s taikonaut screening process?

What Should Lawyers Discuss About Cases Before the Courts, Including Cases that They Are Involved With?

Lawyers play an important role in educating the public and initiating debate and possible policy changes.

Should the lawyer’s role be limited in the discussion of cases that are currently before the court?

Certainly a lawyer has a duty to keep and maintain confidentiality of all his clients’ matters.

But should a general discussion be permitted since court cases are often matters of public record?

So what do you think?

How Have You Seen Canada’s Confidence Grow Since Expo 67?

How Have You Seen Canada’s Confidence Grow Since Expo 67?

Recently the Toronto Star reported:

“As the Expo 67 World’s Fair lit up Montreal in that shining spring and summer, many of Ontario’s 61 hosts and hostesses knew this much: They were at the centre of a monumental moment in this country’s history, when a Commonwealth underling emerged on its 100th birthday as a cultural powerhouse, all-of-a-sudden capable of staging an event for 62 countries and countless millions of visitors.

This weekend, forty-five former hosts and hostesses are staging a 45th-year reunion in Montreal.  …”

The 1967 International and Universal Exposition or Expo 67, as it was commonly known, was the general exhibition from April 27 to October 29, 1967. It is considered to be the most successful World’s Fair of the 20th century, with the most attendees to that date and 62 nations participating. Expo 67 also set the single-day attendance record for a world’s fair, with 569,000 visitors on its third day.

Many argue that this fair was Canada’s coming out party from the Common Wealth to the world.

So what do you think?  Have you seen Canada’s confidence and influence grow since Expo 67?

What Services Would You Like At Your Marina?

With the May long weekend behind us boaters are getting back into the boating season.

Ontario has many excellent marinas to service boating enthusiasts.

What services do you seek: gas, pump out, mechanics, pool or something else?

Starport marina is offering breakfast on board your boat.  Similar to room service, simply just fill out the card (see pic) and breakfast is delivered to your boat the next morning.

What will they think of next?

What Are Your Plans For the May Long Weekend?

What Are Your Plans For the May Long Weekend?

Victoria Day celebrates Queen Victoria’s birthday (May 24th) and is a holiday in Canada.

Victoria Day is always on a Monday, and thus the holiday is part of a long weekend, which is commonly referred to as the Victoria Day Weekend, the May Long Weekend, the May Long, or the May Two-Four (a case of beer there is called a “two-four” and many of these are consumed over the holiday). The weekend is also called the May 24th weekend, although it does not necessarily fall on May 24th.

Canadians will be celebrating May “two-four” this weekend by boating, camping, enjoying the out doors and often times with fireworks.

What are your plans for this May long weekend?
