Russell I. Alexander Awards 2015 Charitable Giving Fund Grant
Luke’s Place is excited to receive $3,000.00.
BROOKLIN, ON November 19, 2015 –
The Russell I. Alexander Charitable Giving Fund provides grants and financial support to community organizations that are doing great work, but may not be as visible as some of their larger counterparts. As part of this giving fund, Luke’s Place Support & Resource Centre for Women & Children has been provided with a donation in the amount of $3,000. Luke’s Place opened its doors in 2003 and served 528 abused women with children in Durham Region last year. Luke’s Place was named in memory of Luke, a 3 ½-year-old boy who was murdered by his father on his first unsupervised access visit. Luke’s Place is devoted to improving the experiences of abused women in navigating the complex family law process and works towards making sure no other child would face a similar fate.
Carol Barkwell, Luke’s Place Executive Director said that “Demand for our services grows annually and donations such as this go a long way towards helping women and their children who are desperate to rebuild their lives free from abuse.”
Tanya Veer-Casey, Luke’s Place Fund Development & Marketing Manager said, “Since we do not have any core annualized support from government, we rely heavily on community funding to provide abused women and their children in Durham Region with access to our support and resources. Luke’s Place needs donations such as these now more than ever.”
