Back by popular demand, Divorce Day in Canada is an event that originally aired in January of 2023. We are proud to be re-sharing this event again as this subject matter remains ever-relevant in family law.

Family law firms often see a surge in separation and divorce inquiries in the first week of January following the winter holidays. Due to this surge, the first Monday of January has come to be recognized as “Divorce Day” among the family law community. In this 1-hour presentation, family lawyers, Russell Alexander, Michelle Mulchan, Carolyn Warner, and Annie Yektaeian, discuss the history of Divorce Day in Canada and the fundamentals of navigating separation and divorce.

The panelists cover the following topics:

  1. What is divorce day and why January each year?
  2. The difference between separation and divorce
  3. Common Law
  4. Living Separate and Apart under the Same Roof
  5. The Importance of DOS
  6. Cooling off periods in the DA
  7. What are possible financial scenarios for the matrimonial home?
  8. This can be scary, what happens next?
  9. Kitchen table agreements, Disclosure, and ILA
  10. Quick Tips
  11. Counselling Services
