Russell Alexander Team Members Serve Dinner at St. Vincent’s Kitchen

Just after 3 pm on a Thursday afternoon, people started to trickle in to St. Vincent’s Kitchen in anticipation of a hot meal on a cold and blustery day. The administrative team from Russell Alexander were on hand to ladle out soup and prepare plates of nutritious food and serve 139 hungry patrons of St. Vincent’s Kitchen.

The day after, while braving hazardous weather conditions, our team of lawyers made their way to St. Vincent’s Kitchen where they chopped vegetables and prepared food for dinner that evening. Some of the preparations also included offloading and sorting boxes of food and washing dishes.

As part of the Russell Alexander Giving Fund initiative, the firm also donated $250 to sponsor a full day of meals for people attending the dinner service that afternoon.

“There are many people who have come on hard times and don’t have access to nutritious food during the holiday season. We were happy to support St. Vincent’s Kitchen, who have created this great community in which people in need have access to wholesome food in a respectful and dignified manner,” said Russell Alexander, lawyer and founder of Russell Alexander Collaborative Family Lawyers.

St Vincent’s Kitchen is the only soup kitchen in Durham Region that serves full course meals seven days a week, 365 days a year to those who are hungry and in need. They serve 150 to 250 meals a day and approximately 50,000 to 60,000 meals per year. With the help of volunteers, St. Vincent’s Kitchen has served more than 1.4 million meals since their establishment in 1990.

The Russell Alexander team really enjoyed their volunteering experience and were happy to come together and support St. Vincent’s Kitchen in the spirit of teamwork and camaraderie. As an organization, we pride ourselves on our culture of giving and promote the opportunity for staff to participate in charitable initiatives.
