The initial application for divorce as of 2025 is $214, plus an additional $445 to place the application on the list for hearing, and another $25 for obtaining the Certificate of Divorce.
How much does it cost to get a divorce if both parties agree?
Lawyers may charge a block fee for an uncontested divorce. Something in the range of $1,500 to $3,000 is typical, but this cost can rise the more complicated the issues. Other lawyers may offer a form of a flat-rate package for an uncontested divorce.
Who pays for the divorce?
The spouse initiating the divorce, or the applicant as they are called, is usually responsible for paying the court filing fees. Each party will pay their own legal fees in the lead up to a trial or settlement, but the court or settlement may dictate that one party is to pay a portion, or in rare cases, all of the other party’s legal fees. One side paying another’s legal fees is decently common, but is more likely if there has been unreasonable conduct.
